Toddlers ages three and younger have shot at least 23 people in the United States this year, according to an analysis by The Washington Post, with 18 of those incidents involving children shooting themselves.

That’s five more shootings by toddlers this year than occurred over the same span in 2015, according to the newspaper.

Last week, there was a two-year-old boy who killed his mother by shooting her from the backseat of a car in Milwaukee.

There was a boy last month in Indiana, also two, who died after finding a gun in his mother’s purse.

The day after that, a two-year-old in Kansas City apparently shot herself with her father’s gun as he slept.
