In an article published over the weekend, Tampa Bay Times columnist John Romano asks the question: “Why aren’t we investing more in smart guns? In case you aren’t familiar with them, smart guns can be fired only by their owners. It could be the grip on a handgun that works like a fingerprint ID, or it could be a wireless receiver in a watch, ring or bracelet that needs to be in close vicinity for the gun to fire. Seems cutting edge, right? Sensible? Safe?”
The shots rang out from small-town North Carolina to Chicago. From a trailer park in Tennessee to a picnic site west of Pittsburgh.
October turned out to be a brutal month for children and guns in America. And, worst of all, it wasn’t terribly unusual, which means November could bring more of the same.
