1. SCHUMER/SCHUMER: LIGHTS, CAMERA, BILL: Yesterday, stand-up actress and comedian Amy Schumer joined her cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer, in New York for a press conference where the senator unveiled a three-part plan that would make it harder for violent criminals and the mentally ill to obtain guns. The legislation would create monetary rewards for state that submit all necessary records into the background check system and penalize states that do not. Ms. Schumer noted her personal connection to the recent Lafayette shooting that killed two women and injured nine during a screening of the movie “Trainwreck” starring Amy. She noted: “We’ll never know why people chose to do these painful things, but sadly we always find out how — how the shooter got their gun and it’s often something that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.” (POLITICO)

2. STOLEN GUN FROM COP CAR: Central Florida is having a growing problem of stolen guns getting into the hands of criminals, but what’s worse, many of these guns are actually being stolen from law enforcement officials. Most recently, last week an AR-15 assault rifle and a Glock pistol were stolen from a police car. Three weeks ago, a submachine gun and three other firearms were stolen from a Florida Orange County deputy’s unmarked SUV parked outside his home. These are weapons that are often connected to gun-related crimes, and since 2012, stolen guns have been used to kill two Florida officers. These are moments in which smart technology could render such a problem far less worrisome to law enforcement and to the general public.  (The Orlando Sentinel)
