It’s hard to know whether Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) is waving a white flag or playing rope-a-dope, but she made the right call in shelving the Childproof Handgun Act, on the remote chance that she can get smart guns onto the market and save lives.
There’s just one flaw with her plan: The malignant profiteers who control gun groups give no sign that they are willing to compromise on anything that might reduce their cache of death toys – NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre still hasn’t returned her calls – so if this is Weinberg’s olive branch, it will be rejected.
